Elementary
Join us for a fun-filled and educational summer experience! Our 3-week summer school is designed to help elementary students excel in their choice of academic classes in engaging morning sessions. In the afternoons, students will rotate through three different week-long explorations of sports, visual arts, and coding & cooking.
Our Elementary Programs are open to non-Seisen boys and girls for Grades 2 to 12.

Elementary Morning Options (8:30-11:30)
- Pre-1st Grade
- Pre-grade 2 (current grade 1)
- Pre-grade 3 (current grade 2)
- Pre-grades 4/5 (current grades 3/4)
- ES Summer School Schedule
Pre-1st Grade
Pre-first Grade
Our goal for the pre-first grade summer school program is to welcome students to the elementary school and get them used to a new environment. Please note that our pre-first grade program is only for current Seisen students or those enrolling for the 2026-27 school year. By joining summer school, our incoming first graders will:
- get to know the other students
- get to know many of the teachers they will see in elementary school
- get to know the classrooms and environment
- get to know the routines of the elementary
- review and learn concepts, knowledge, and skills that will help them succeed in first grade
- participate in afternoon activities that include sports, arts, cooking, and coding
- take several trips connected to their afternoon activities
- have tons of fun!
In both summer school and transition surveys, many families have noted how much summer school helped with the smooth transition of their child from kindergarten to first grade. For this reason, we strongly recommend that all incoming first-grade students join our summer school program.
Afternoon Activities
For afternoon activities, pre-first graders will follow the same rotation as pre-second through fifth graders:
- One week of sports
- One week of visual arts
- One week of cooking & coding

Discovery Zone: Explore, Create, Discover! - Grades 2 & 3
Curious minds, get ready to explore! In the Discovery Zone, students embark on a journey of personal inquiry, co-creating a vibrant learning space where they investigate their favourite topics and interests while developing essential research and information-literacy skills. Through asking meaningful questions, finding trustworthy sources, and presenting new learning in creative and engaging ways, students grow in confidence, independence, and curiosity as young researchers. Whether exploring animals, space, history, or something entirely unexpected, every discovery becomes an opportunity to think deeply, create with confidence, and share proudly in this dynamic and inspiring class.
Fun with Math - Grades 2 & 3
Fun with Math is a lively, hands-on class that builds confidence and strong number sense through games, teamwork, and real-world problem solving. The first week will feature a classroom “market” where students practise addition and subtraction by buying, selling, and making change with hands-on items. Next, we will explore patterns all around us, from numbers and shapes to designs in the world, helping students spot, extend, and explain what comes next. The final week will bring it all together with STEM challenges that use math to measure, build, test, and improve creative designs.
Speech and Creative Writing - Grades 2 & 3
This fun and engaging programme invites students to explore their ideas through speech, storytelling, and creative writing. Learners build confidence through interactive speaking activities such as Pick & Speak and Just a Minute (JAM), along with storytelling circles, role play, and collaborative games. In a warm and supportive environment, students discover the joy of using words to express themselves and share ideas creatively.
Japanese Literacy and Culture - Grades 2-5
This course is open to everyone, from advanced Japanese speakers to beginners. All students will practice reading and writing through activities that match their specific skill level. Beginners will also spend time learning how to speak and have basic conversations in Japanese. Every student will explore Japanese culture by learning about special traditions and celebrations.
Session 2 Course Options
Fun with Science - Grades 2 & 3
Fun with Science is an inquiry-driven class where students learn to think and work like scientists. Children will practise the scientific method by asking questions, making predictions, planning fair tests, observing carefully, and recording results as they investigate hands-on experiments. Along the way, students will reflect on what the evidence shows, revise their ideas, and explain their learning clearly to others, building confidence as curious, thoughtful inquirers.
Social Justice Starts with Me - Grades 2 & 3
Students will explore some global issues shaping our world today. But before we can understand global issues, we need to start with ourselves. What are the different aspects of my identity? What is important to me? Why should I care about global issues? Is there anything I can do? Through self-reflection, research, and discussions, students will develop a better understanding of themselves, their role in society and in relation to global issues, and what actions they can take. This engaging and thought-provoking program empowers young learners to become informed, compassionate, and global citizens who are ready to take action.
Fluency Through Performing Arts - Grades 2 & 3
This class helps children become better readers through fun drama activities. We focus on reading fluency, which helps students understand stories more clearly. The class is for all levels, including students who are still learning English. Drama helps children improve their speech, expression and confidence.
