Uganda: The Pearl of Africa

Uganda is a small country in East Africa, neighbouring Kenya, mostly surrounded by the snow-capped Rwenzori mountains and the vast Lake Victoria, one of the African Great Lakes. Although it is a small country in size, it is topped with numerous and exciting activities including visits to national parks, visits to the source of the Nile, mountain climbing and more.

Uganda has ten national parks each boasting different types of animals; over 345 different mammal species, over 1,020 bird species and more. Additionally, there are wide varieties of habitats, such as grassland savannah, forests, wetlands and lakes. These different habitats provide a convenient environment for a large range of animals. Getting to see different animals is a great experience, as such an experience is very rare. 

Another tourist attraction in Uganda is a visit to the source of the Nile. The Nile River is the longest river in the world, with a length of 6,650 kilometres. The river flows northward through the tropical climate of eastern Africa and into the Mediterranean Sea, passing through eleven different countries. Activities at the Nile consist of kayaking, boat cruising, fishing, and bungee jumping from a platform perched from 44m.  

An additional activity that I would recommend when visiting Uganda is mountain climbing/ hiking. Uganda is gifted with spectacular topography, with twenty magnificent mountains surrounding the country. The Rwenzori mountains are one of the most popular mountain ranges in the country, located in the eastern equatorial of Africa, along the borders of Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo. These mountains reach a height of 5,109 meters, and are one of the sources of the Nile. Each of these mountains offers distinctive hiking trails, enabling travellers to actively interact with nature.

To conclude, a trip to Uganda would be a once in a lifetime opportunity, filled with enjoyment and excitement. As we’ve explored, activities include visits to national parks, the source of the Nile, mountain climbing and more. I would 100% recommend a trip to Uganda, as it is a great opportunity to go sightseeing and to experience a different culture.
