Naoko Hashimoto-Uesaka

Congratulations to the Seisen Middle School Concert Band, comprised of Grade 7 and 8 instrumentalists, who participated in the KPASS Middle School Band Festival at Tsutsuji Hall of Nerima Cultural Center! Their director was Ms. Hashimoto-Uesaka (Ms. Hashi), who was also the main organizer of the Middle School Band Festival. Middle school concert bands from Christian Academy in Japan, Saint Maur, St. Mary's, and Zama also participated in the event. The students celebrated their musical achievements by performing two to three pieces for each other. The event also included a performance by the Kanto Plain Select Band, comprised of top middle school instrumentalists from those five participating schools. The Select Band students, who rehearsed with Ms. Hashimoto-Uesaka (Seisen), Mr. Bradley (Saint Maur), and Mr. Harzman (Zama) on one Saturday to put three pieces together, capped the festival with an impressive performance.

The Seisen Middle School Select Band representatives were: Jamie Yoon (clarinet), Victoria Hudson (bass clarinet), Yuling Chen (alto sax), Haru Studebaker (alto sax), Makoto Yoshida (alto sax), Mima Ubukata (baritone sax), Mihika Gupta (trumpet), Sawako Fujinaga (trombone), Lynn Fukunaga (percussion), and Glory Chikolongo (percussion).

On May 30th, the Seisen MS Concert Band also performed and presented on the wind, brass, and percussion instruments to the Grade 5 students, so that they could start thinking about picking an instrument to learn next year in Middle School.

Bravo, Middle School instrumentalists!  (MS Band Festival photos in Vidigami)
