The Grade 8 Chawan unit was a meaningful exploration of Japanese ceramic traditions and the design principles behind tea ceremony aesthetics. Students investigated seasonal symbolism and formal elements through visual analysis, then applied this understanding in their own chawan designs. Their process journals documented research, artistic intention, and personal reflection, while the final vessels showed a strong sense of care, creativity, and individual style. This unit allowed students to work thoughtfully with materials, connect their ideas to cultural context, and deepen their skills in both analysis and expression.
