Inspired by Kusama’s unique style, the students designed and created their own clay pumpkins.

In our Grade 3 well-being unit of inquiry, students explored the life and work of renowned artist Yayoi Kusama, known for her iconic pumpkin sculptures and polka dot patterns. Inspired by Kusama’s unique style, the students designed and created their own clay pumpkins, applying the principles of balance and mindfulness in their artistic process. The project involved a meticulous and challenging process, from shaping the clay to applying detailed underglazing. Students then carefully glazed their pumpkins, learning about patience and perseverance as they waited for their pieces to be fired in the kiln, resulting in vibrant, polished artworks. This hands-on project deepened their understanding of how artistic expression can enhance well-being.
