Students in Mr. Jimenez’s Grade 12 Diploma Art class spent the day last Wednesday at both the Mori Art Museum and the National Art Center, Tokyo. The Mori hosted an excellent exhibition featuring many works from Louise Bourgeois, a French-American artist who is best known for her sculptures, paintings, and installations which explore the themes of domestication and motherhood. Students found her works so inspiring as her works explore the more complex themes of the stages of her own life as a child, a daughter and a mother.
Seisen students walked over to the NACT to experience 3 more exhibitions. The first being the solo show of Keiichi Tanaami, a leading figure in Japan’s underground art scene primarily on the strength of his work in magazines and advertisements. Additionally students saw works from up and coming artists at the ICHIYOKAI and Jiyu Bijustsu exhibitions as well. Overall a busy day filled with a multitude of inspiring moments for the DP students who will be putting together their own exhibitions this coming spring.
