Grade 9 Ceramics

The Grade 9 class concluded their second unit for the year, which was an investigation into the relationship between Form and Function in ceramics. The students explored 3 new construction techniques; coiling, slab building and wheel throwing and then were tasked with creating a vessel of their own design using their preferred method, or a combination of 2.

As always, the emphasis on creativity and student agency is central to the process, and students are encouraged to take risks and think laterally about how they can attack the design challenge.

The results are a combination of technical accomplishment and genuinely engaging and original pieces of work. The students should be very proud of what they have produced.
