Grade 7 Visual Art

The Grade 7s are currently displaying the fruits of their endeavors in the 1st floor Hallway at school, which are the ceramic relief carving tiles from their first unit. This unit teaches fundamental skills and knowledge in the medium of clay, and the students explore the use of symbolism to represent and communicate ideas and concepts visually. The Students are also given autonomy and creative control over their work to encourage expression and agency as they produce Visual Art - skills that are extremely important to them in the later years of High School. Grade 8 Visual Art

Students in Mr. Jimenez’s class have recently completed their unit centered around street photography and printmaking. This began with a dive into the works of legendary street photographer Moriyama Daido (森山 大道) and how he views the world through his works. The students were then tasked with taking 100 photos from their commute/travels around Tokyo, to then turn those works into a linocut reduction print. This year the students were able to use the antique printing press to complete their works in black and white. -Mr. Jimenez
