Kindergarten Student Led Conferences 2019
Celebration of Learning
Celebration of Learning
March 1st, 2019
Dear Kindergarten Parents and Guardians,
The Kindergarten team will be conducting Student Led Conferences for all the students on Thursday, March 21st, 2019. Class teachers will be sending you an individual time for your child. This is a different format of conference, between you and your child. It is not the usual Parent/Teacher conference. The teacher will not be facilitating but staying in the background.
Please understand that your child is not performing but just sharing knowledge, and you are there to support your child with their presentation. The children have really worked hard preparing for the conferences.
The purpose of this conference is to reflect on your child's growth and learning this year. During the 40 minute conference period, your child will take an active role by showing you work samples (portfolios) and his/her favourite materials. Marigold afternoon children will have their conference in the Marigold class.
There are many learning experiences and benefits for your child that accompany this format including the following: active participation in the learning process, increased self-confidence, development of leadership skills, organization, responsibility for their learning, communication and critical thinking skills.
Some questions you might like to ask;
What did you like best about this piece or work?
What did you learn while doing this?
What makes this piece of work special to you?
Always keep it positive, “I like the way you............................”
Benefits for you as parents: a longer conference time to gather information
about your child's academic and social progress this year and the joy of seeing your child present information and materials they have been working on.
There will be 3-4 families in the room at the same time. Each family will choose a table and
your child will begin their presentation, just to your family. Your child will then guide you to the different curriculum areas around the classroom. Children can also present in their home language. Be mindful that it may not be suitable for much younger siblings to sit through a 40 minute conference.
Thank you for always being there for your child and look forward to seeing you all on March 21st.
