Holy Week Virtual Prayer Services

All members of the community are invited to participate in a Holy Thursday prayer service this Thursday, April 9th at 4pm and a Good Friday Stations of the Cross prayer service on Friday at 3pm.

Dear Seisen International School Community,

For Catholics around the world, Sunday marked the beginning of the most holy week on our Church calendar. As I shared in my blog post last week, I am a New Yorker and I have been thinking about 9/11 a lot these past few weeks. One of the memories that stands out for me is how crowded the churches were in the weeks and months following the attacks. It really showed me that in our most vulnerable moments, we are ready to surrender to faith and to the support of our community. This is another vulnerable moment for us, and it is in this spirit that I would like to invite you to participate in a Holy Thursday and Good Friday prayer service that we will be offering via Zoom.

All members of the community are invited to participate in a Holy Thursday prayer service this Thursday, April 9th at 4pm and a Good Friday Stations of the Cross prayer service on Friday at 3pm. Please know that these prayer services are open to everyone- not just the Catholic community, and that they are also completely optional. If you are not able to participate, please know we will still be keeping the entire community in our prayers. We would love to invite different representatives of our community to help lead the service by reading a part. If you or your child would be willing to do this, please sign up below.

We hope to see you on Thursday and Friday!

Thank you and best wishes,

Cristina Varriale
Middle School/High School Counselor

Dear Seisen Community,

After much effort in seeking solutions, many conversations around forming contingency plans, and deep reflection, we must inform you of our decision to continue with our respective Online/ At Home Learning programs and school campus closure until the end of the school year, Friday, June 5, 2020.

The COVID -19 health crisis has changed our lives on and off campus in ways that could not have been predicted at the start of the 2019 - 2020 school year. The uncertainty and concern surrounding the spread of COVID-19 over the last several weeks has deeply impacted the spirit of our shared community.

Decisions made by the administration at both schools have held at their center the health and safety of the students and our shared school community. The unpredictable speed and scope of the spread of the virus, scientific and medical information, governmental directives and requests, guidelines from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology on reopening schools, and the concerns of families and faculty have all played their role as we debated how we should move forward with the rest of the school year.

By announcing our decision now, we hope to focus our energy on strengthening our respective approaches to the educational and social emotional well-being of our students in such unprecedented times. The goals of this decision are to alleviate the anxiety surrounding health-related concerns, to ensure continuity of education, and to facilitate logistical planning of daily and school life.

Sincerely,

Colette Rogers                             Saburo Kagei

Read More about April and May Schedule Update (April 2nd)

Dear Parents,

Our COVID-19 related decisions leading to the campus closures of Seisen International School and St. Mary’s International School have been motivated by the health and safety of our students, teachers, staff, and shared communities. This will continue to be our focal point as we navigate uncertain times together.

Due to an increase in the number of diagnosed COVID-19 cases in Tokyo and surrounding areas and the increased level of uncertainty, both schools have taken an abundance of caution in now deciding to extend school campus closure through Sunday, April 19, with school campus reopening on Monday, April 20, 2020. Online/ At Home Learning will carry on, and updates from principals will be communicated later this week.

Both schools will continue to monitor the situation with the best interests of our school communities in mind. We appreciate your ongoing support and understanding during this unprecedented global health crisis.

Sincerely,

Colette Rogers                             Saburo Kagei
