Another Successful Personal Project Showcase!

Congratulations to the Class of 2027, who put on an excellent Personal Project Showcase on February 20. The Personal Project is the culmination of each student’s MYP journey, and our Grade 10 students did not disappoint as they shared their learning and passion for their projects with visitors ranging from elementary students to adults.

Aims The Personal Project

The IB describes the purpose of the Personal Project in the following terms:

  • student-centered
  • practical exploration
  • consolidation of MYP learning
  • long-term (an investment of 25 hours or so)
  • independent learning experiences

The Project aims to support student growth in …

  • practicing and strengthening approaches to learning (ATL) skills
  • developing as independent lifelong learners

Approaches to Learning (ATL) Skills

While each student’s individual learning and product goals require a unique combination of ATL skills, I was particularly impressed this year by the Communication skills that went into preparation for the Showcase, presentation during the Showcase, and preparation of the final Personal Project report.

Our Grade 10 students showed evidence of careful consideration of the different audiences for each aspect, with thoughtfully prepared Showcase boards to attract the attention of visitors, compelling narratives when sharing their projects verbally, and organized writing in the preparation of their final reports.

A Collaborative Effort

The Grade 10 students were thrilled to host a variety of guests throughout the day. Thanks to all parents who made time to support the Showcase by coming to hear about the students’ projects. Students from other grade levels visited along with their teachers, and for the first time, we had guests from another international school come to see how we go about celebrating the Personal Project. All of this was made possible through the guidance of our  Personal Project Coordinator, Ms. Loke, whose efforts set the stage for such a successful Showcase. We are also grateful to all of the faculty and staff who served as supervisors,  supporting individual students as they progressed through the project.

As our fourth cohort completes their MYP journey over the next few months, we appreciate their engagement with the spirit of the Personal Project and look forward to continuing to showcase student learning in the MYP.

As with all subjects in the MYP, the Mathematics curriculum framework is designed to take students beyond memorization of content into deeper conceptual understanding and the building of skills that will transfer across other disciplines and into their future math studies.
