Through December and January, Seisen International School hosted a series of Information Sessions for current Grade 10 students and their families as they embark on the IB Diploma Programme journey.

In these sessions, attendees are provided with essential guidance on strategic subject selection and higher education pathways, critical decisions that shape students' two final years of secondary education.

Parents are invited to explore the architecture of the IB Diploma Programme in detail: six subjects across diverse disciplines (three at Higher Level, three at Standard Level) which are complemented by the Theory of Knowledge, Extended Essay, and Creativity, Activity, Service core components.

Our IB DP Coordinator, Ms. Veronique Maekawa, and Higher Education Advisor, Ms. Awing Lui also took this opportunity to highlight Seisen's strong track record, with diploma pass rates consistently exceeding global averages, and approximately 40% of our students earning a bilingual diploma.

Being aware of the specific needs and aptitudes of each student, these sessions not only inform, but also serve as a forum to address alternative pathways. They provide families with clarity and understanding of how academic rigor is tailored while maintaining our commitment to student’s holistic development.

Open discussions encourage a thoughtful engagement with students' futures. From strategically selecting a subject selection to guide students' choice for a university major, to finding a calibrated balance of passion and strategy that strengthens their decision-making. These sessions allow Ms. Lui to give valuable perspectives as there is no "blanket answer" when it comes to higher education planning. Each student's pathway is unique, and is shaped by evolving interests and diverse university systems.

The key takeaway for families:

  • Prioritize genuine student interest and demonstrated ability over peer influence.
  • Encourage exploratory conversations with teachers, and trust that authentic engagement yields stronger outcomes than strategic calculation alone.

These sessions embody our IB mission: developing inquiring, knowledgeable, and caring young people equipped to navigate complexity with confidence.
We extend sincere gratitude to attending families for demonstrating the partnership that strengthens our community. Together, we support each student's unique path toward becoming compassionate global citizens.
