During the summer of 2022, a number of Seisen students were able to complete an internship that was offered by Seisen parents. These internships lasted between two weeks to seven weeks. On behalf of the students and the school I would like to sincerely thank them for their generosity and giving our students such a great opportunity to learn about the real world of work.
Being an intern at Lladro was a memorable experience where I was inspired and learned something new every day. From walking in on my first day until leaving three weeks later, I gained so much knowledge and experience I didn’t know I would have before I started.
Throughout my internship, my fellow interns and I were responsible for researching their products, writing a short blurb, and translating the following from English to Japanese. I had barely heard about Lladro before, therefore I had little to no expectations of the work culture and what people would be like. However, from the beginning, I was met with respect and understanding.
Although I was treated as an intern, I was also treated as an employee. The president made sure to make us feel comfortable and approached us in a casual, friendly manner.
Given the opportunity to write blurbs for numerous products (content that would be read by thousands of people), this role pushed me to constantly improve my research skills and writing skills in both English and Japanese. I had to understand the content necessary for our audience to understand the meanings behind the products, and how to best attract their attention. Not only did I gain these skills, but I also learned a lot about the product itself and the company.
I was also given the opportunity to visit their warehouse and stores, where I met with their employees. Through this experience, I learned about the meticulous work that goes in behind the scenes to successfully run a business. From working at the office to storing and processing products to selling the products and coming in contact with the customers.
My internship has taught me a lot about working for a business. It has helped me gain an understanding of what to expect including attire, work schedules, and professional communications. I left my internship with skill sets that I didn’t have when I started. The knowledge I gained will help me face the real world in the future. This experience has been very special to me and will never be forgotten!
Our Higher Education Advisor Ms. Awing Lui is continuously looking for opportunities for our students. If you are able to offer anything to our students in the future and have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact her at alui@seisen.com.
