On October 11, students from Drama 9/10 ventured over to the KG playground to present "Doraemon Goes to Barbieland," an original play created by the 9th- and 10th-grade students specifically for the Seisen kindergarteners.

In the story, characters from the beloved Doraemon series traveled to the world of Barbie and her friends. The short 10-minute play was fun & kid-friendly, and included dancing, music, imagination, audience interaction, and a surprise ending. The performance was followed by a brief meet-and-greet with the actors, at which time KG students could interact with their favorite characters from the show.

The performance was the culmination of Drama 9/10's first unit of the year, the topic of which was Ensemble. In the unit, the students learned about and developed skills in building community, collaborating, and making tableaux (also known as "snapshots" or "freeze frames") -- all of which featured prominently in the ultimate performance.

Drama Teacher Dr. Reimer said, “The 9/10 students did a great job developing this show to what it became in performance, especially considering it was their first time performing for such a young and enthusiastic crowd.” Young audience members were responsive to the performance, often shouting out answers and pointing with excitement when prompted by the actors.

"I warned the Drama 9/10 students that the KG kids would love them," Dr. Reimer added, "and they certainly did!" Kindergarteners crowded around the actors after their performance, stealing quick hugs from Doraemon and Barbie. Overall, students and faculty who got to see the performance were entertained by the amusing story and creative presentation.

Congratulations to all of the students who performed and worked backstage on this play of their own creation! Hopefully this show will inspire the next generation of Seisen Drama students to also support the school community through dramatic performances.
