Courses offered by session

Session 1 (8:30 - 10:00)

Middle School EAL (Ms. Alo)

For students entering grades: 7-8

The course gives students opportunities to extend and refine their literacy skills through a variety of methods, including vocabulary and grammar expansion, techniques to express and support ideas in an organized manner, and public speaking skills.

Informational Reading (Ms. Allen)

FOR STUDENTS ENTERING GRADES: 7-8

In this course students will unpack and gain integral skills that will help them with reading nonfiction texts. By completing close readings, analyzing the features of informational texts, students will feel confident to complete research for any writing-based assignment in the next school year.

Extended Essay (Mr. Bevan)

FOR STUDENTS ENTERING GRADES: 9-12

The Extended Essay summer course is now in its fourth year and has helped more than 30 students complete their extended essay! The purpose of the course is help you have a near completed extended essay for when you come back to school in August. We will begin by covering how to create the ideal research question, how to complete RPPF forms which are worth 18.4% of the final grade and how to structure you EE, including the introduction, paragraphs and conclusions. Exemplars will be provided for each step of the EE so you can have confidence in knowing that would you are doing is correct. Finally, the EE grading criteria will be broken down into easy to understand parts so you can complete your EE piece by piece. Mr. Bevan will also offer you feedback and guidance throughout regardless of your EE subject matter.

Introduction to public speaking (Mr. Gomez)

FOR STUDENTS ENTERING GRADES: 9-12

This introductory communication course is designed to give students the opportunities to gain poise, develop personal interests, and share responsibilities for group projects. Students will have opportunities to acquire listening skills, to learn fundamentals of oral presentation, to prepare and present various types of speeches, to participate in group discussions, and to develop interpersonal communications skills and poise.

Power-up vocabulary (Mr. Lake)

FOR STUDENTS ENTERING GRADES: 9-12

In this course students will learn prefixes and root words to help them “Power-Up” their vocabulary. This course includes 1,000 words which are arranged by theme for easy retention.

Session 2 (10:30 - 12:00)

Reading dystopian texts (Ms. Allen)

FOR STUDENTS ENTERING GRADES: 7-9

In this course students will strengthen their ability to transfer key reading skills from one context to another, building independence as readers and thinkers. Using dystopian texts, students will read complex fiction learning how to analyze symbolism, deepen character analysis, and read critically by questioning the text.

Digital Writing (Mr. Gomez)

FOR STUDENTS ENTERING GRADES: 7-8

This course is designed to enhance student writing skills by publishing them with Web 2.0 tools. The focus of the class will be to develop students’ writing techniques while using online tools to publish their work. Students will be using fun online sites to create comics, animated videos, and Interactive picture books to share their writings.

FOR STUDENTS ENTERING GRADES: 7-10

This course will explore different genres of writing like autobiographies, poetry, short stories and journals, through both reading and writing. This course is designed with the goal of inspiring students to develop original pieces and ideas. Skills acquired will help students in their English classes.

FOR STUDENTS ENTERING GRADES: 7-10

The class will help students meet individual goals in a range of Japanese skills. There will be mini-lessons for small groups focusing on reading comprehension, grammar, writing, and vocabulary.

FOR STUDENTS ENTERING GRADES: 9-10

This course gives students opportunities to refine their Writing and Vocabulary Skills, Reading and Response Skills. The focus will be on Short Texts.

SAT prep@seisen (Mr. Bevan)

FOR STUDENTS ENTERING GRADES: 9-12

If you are planning or thinking about going to university in the United States of America then you should consider taking the SAT Prep @Seisen course this summer. This course will provide:

  • Techniques to answering many questions students may otherwise feel are beyond them
  • Ways to recognize the pitfalls that lie in wait for the unwary or hasty test taker
  • Familiarity with the types of critical reading, writing and math questions on the SAT
  • Practice tests leading to individualized instruction
  • Simulations of the conditions and pressures of the actual test
  • Guidance and feedback on the SAT essay.

Session 3 (1:00 - 3:00)

FOR STUDENTS ENTERING GRADES: 7-8

In this class you will learn the basics of volume control, fluency, eye contact, body language, and enthusiasm. Learn the skills of how to stay within a time limit while presenting informative and persuasive speeches. Build confidence so you can be relaxed and enjoy public speaking as an effective and confident speaker.

essay writing (Ms. Allen)

FOR STUDENTS ENTERING GRADES: 7-9

In this course students will work on writing argument essays using the writing process. They will begin the course by setting goals based on their grade level before learning about the fundamental qualities of good writing to strengthen their own writing skills.

multimedia (Mr. GOmez)

FOR STUDENTS ENTERING GRADES: 7-12

Multimedia is any combination of text, art, sound, animation, and video delivered to you by computer or other electronic or digitally manipulated means. When you weave together the sensual elements of multimedia —dazzling pictures and animations, engaging sounds, compelling video clips, and raw textual information— you can electrify the thought and action centers of people’s minds.

lifetime sports (Mr. Bevan & Ms. Varriale)

FOR STUDENTS ENTERING GRADES: 7-12

 

 

If you want to keep fit and enjoy exercising with friends this summer then sign-up for Lifetime Sports. In Lifetime Sports we will enjoy participating in sports that everyone, regardless of ability can enjoy. These will include; Soccer, Badminton, Tennis, Bowling, Golf, Swimming, Basketball, Frisbee, Hiking, Bowling, Hockey, Table Tennis, Running and more!

 

 

All Middle and High School courses run for three weeks.

The cost is ¥50,000 per course. Students registering for three sessions will receive a reduced rate of ¥130,000.
