School Profile

The Seisen Mission

Seisen International School, a Catholic International School, educates future world citizens to become men and women for others and with others, in the spirit of Jesus Christ.

Seisen’s mission is to provide a safe environment with a focus on the multi-faceted nature of community wellbeing. We seek to empower each student, through shared responsibility, creativity, and human interdependence, to develop their unique talents and to become competent and compassionate players in our global society, capable of empowering others and of bringing hope and peace to our ever-changing world.

Seisen International School (SIS) is a private, Catholic school for girls serving the international community in Tokyo. The high school has 180 students out of a total K-12 population of 700 students representing over 50 nationalities. The aim of the high school program is to prepare young women for higher education through a comprehensive and challenging program of study.

The curriculum is taught in English and the official language of communication is English. SIS has high expectations of its students in terms of both character development and academic achievement.

Students choose between enrolling in the full International Baccalaureate Diploma program (IBDP) or the SIS Diploma program with I.B. certificates. Typically, 50% of the graduates will matriculate to North American Universities, mostly in the U.S., 25% will stay in Japan or Asia, and 25% will attend universities in Europe, mostly the U.K. 100% of the graduating class of 2019 attend 3 to 4 year institutions.

The faculty, principally trained in the U.S., the U.K., Canada, and Australia, is broadly international. Small class size and close faculty-student relationships promote a supportive atmosphere. Our students participate in a wide range of extra-curricular activities including basketball, choir, cross-country, debate, drama, international science competition team, Model United Nations, newspaper, pottery, soccer, speech, tennis, track & field, volleyball and yearbook. As a member of the Kanto Plain Association, SIS competes in academics and sports, and participates in fine arts with other international and DoDD schools.
