Busy Times in Elementary!
Sandra Mulligan

Sports, service and songs. It has been a busy week in Elementary.

Dear Elementary Parents & Guardians,

It's been a rather full and busy time at Seisen recently! A quick update...

Sports Day - May 16th
We'd like to sincerely thank all elementary parents who came along to Kinuta Park last Wednesday, May 16th to support the Elementary students during our annual Sports Day; particular appreciation to those who acted as chaperones during our time in the park.

We're particularly proud of our grade 6 students and Elementary House Captains who were our leaders for the day supporting and encouraging younger students throughout the events, running to bathrooms, ensuring students were hydrated and keeping spirits high! If your daughter is in grade 6, congratulate her on a job well done! Congratulations to all students in Iwaki also, the winners of the Sports Day House event!

St. Raphaela's Day - Friday, May 18thWe celebrated St. Raphaela's Day, founder of the Handmaids of the Sacred Heart and patron Saint of our Seisen Sisters with a day of Service on Friday, May 18th.

Grades 1 and 2 visited Care Homes in the neighbourhood sharing cards, making origami with residents and providing performances of song and dance. Grades 2, 4 and 5 participated in a sponsored walk / run / skip along the river bank in Futakotamagawa raising funds for Refugees International Japan (RIJ). We'd like to thank all parents for their contributions. We were also very fortunate to host two members from RIJ who shared stories and photos of their work with students.

In the afternoon, grade 2 listened to stories read by High School student volunteers and heard about the High School Service Trip to Vietnam. Grade 4 participated in building Eco-Kits consisting of stationery and first aid supplies for students less fortunate and created bracelets to support charity fund-raising.

Teams of Grade 5 students spent the day helping to clean Kinuta Park and planting in Setagaya Flower Park. Grade 6 joined Middle and High School events and participated off-campus in a range of activities.

Elementary Choral Festival - Monday, May 18th

Today we were happy to host visiting choirs from the International School Sacred Heart, British School in Tokyo, St. Mary's International School and the Christian Academy Japan for the Elementary Choral Festival. After sharing rousing and inspiring choral pieces with each other covering a range of musicality, school joined together to sing Thula Klizeo, the soulful African piece by Joseph Shabalala, best known best for his collaboration with Paul Simon.

Guest Clinician Ms. Megan Ofstedal offered advice and guidance to each choir after their individual pieces.

With over 300 additional students on campus for the event, students visited the Jungle Gym and Futsal Field for a picnic lunch before buses left to return to their respective campuses. We thank all the schools and their choral and music directors who joined us at Seisen today.

Here is the full performance from the Seisen Grade 5/6 Choir.
