We are Explorers

Grade 4B are preparing for their upcoming summative live museum exhibit. They used the app "Chatterpix" to show in 30 seconds what they know about their explorer.

The grade 4s are coming towards the end of their inquiry into "Exploration" as part of their Where We Are in Place and Time unit. The students have been busy researching about a chosen explorer during Reader's Workshop and will be using this research to support their end of unit summative, where they will present a live exhibit of their chosen explorer. Parents and fellow students will be invited to come along and meet these current and historical explorers and ask them questions about their expeditions.

At the end of last week, the 4B students took some time to reflect on the research they had gathered so far. What could they present today about their chosen explorer if they had to present today? The students used the app "Chatterpix" to record a 30 second video narrating an introduction for their explorer.

Based on these creative, funny and thought provoking Chatterpix videos, the live museum exhibits are going to be very interesting indeed!

Here is Bridie's Chatterpix on Matthew Flinders, an explorer of Australia.

This is Miyuri's Chatterpix video on Vasco Da Gama, a Portuguese explorer.

This is Suhlim's Chatterpix on Isabella Bird, an early explorer of Japan.

Lastly, here is Moe's Chatterpix video on Antarctic explorer, Ernest Shackelton.

Field Trip to Gas Science Museum

Fourth Grade inquirers grow their knowledge at the Tokyo Gas Science Museum. It was a fun field trip where we made many connections to all that we have learned in the How the World Works- Energy unit of inquiry.

The 4th grade kicked off their unit on Where We Are in Place and Time by showing their knowledge of world geography. The focus of the unit is explorers, and before students learn about the history of exploration, it is important to know about continents, oceans, countries, and other geographic features.

RIJ Concert Performance

As every member of the audience reported, the fourth graders amazed everyone with their singing and dancing performance yesterday evening at St. Mary's. Seisen 4th graders joined other schools to raise money for Refugees International Japan.

A Spooktacular Day

Fourth graders celebrated Halloween by dressing up in their most creative costumes.

Grade 4 students are a few days into their new unit....Who We Are. In this unit we will be exploring the systems of the human body.

Throughout our "Interpreting Characters" unit, readers have strengthened their repertoire of strategies for getting to know the characters in their books.
