About

Sponsored by the Handmaids of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, Seisen is an international Catholic school that welcomes students from many ethnic groups, cultures and religious traditions into a happy, caring and respect filled atmosphere.

At Seisen we are passionate about international education to which we bring our commitment to Love in Action. Our belief is that international education helps to form caring young people and critical thinkers who can contribute to creating a better and more peaceful world.

Our faculty members love their fields of expertise and they love young people. It is our conviction that every student has a unique potential that they can achieve with our care and guidance.

Seisen offers an educational program that prepares “today’s students for tomorrow’s world”. Our program spans preschool, elementary and high school years, K-12, and focuses on very high academic standards as well as social, physical, aesthetic, cultural and spiritual development.

The International Baccalaureate Programme (IB) offers students in High School a Diploma that gives them a university entry credential for colleges worldwide. Seisen is a community made up of faculty, staff, students, parents and alumni, enriched by over 60 different nationalities, who all work together for the good of every student.

IB + All Girls = Empowerment

We were the first All Girls school in Japan to offer the IB DP Program back in 1985.  As a continuum school we see the effects of the powerful combination of learning in the IB framework in an empowering All-Girls environment.

Learning, Loving and Laughing Together

Seisen strives to offer a wide range of opportunities to students while keeping each grade level to a maximum of 50 students. This helps students and staff make important connections across grade levels and divisions.

Big Dreams Start Small

Graduates of Seisen International School continue their education at the finest universities around the world. Those big dreams begin in our kindergarten.

Montessori and PYP

The Seisen Kindergarten has employed the Montessori approach since it began in the 1960s. The curriculum is constantly evolving, adding technology to the Montessori materials. In 2021 the Seisen Kindergarten will be part of the IB Primary Years Program evaluation visit for the first time.

Exploring the Local Culture

Learning more about our host culture is an important part of the curriculum. Through units of inquiry and class trips students have the opportunity to experience Japanese language and culture.

Home Culture and Host Culture

Our students represent more than 55 nationalities. They share the joys and struggles of being Third Culture Kids (TCKs) as they learn more about their cultures.

Festival of Nations

Each year the Seisen Parents Association (SPA) organizes the "Festival of Nations". This is the largest event held in our calendar. We welcome everyone to come and enjoy the international food, games and entertainment.
