College Counselor
Virtually all graduates of Seisen International School are accepted by, and enroll in, college or university. Typically, over 70% of our students apply to universities in the U.S., but we have students enrolled in excellent institutions worldwide. The purpose of our advising program is to guide and assist with all aspects of the college search and application process. We work with students to find universities that match their personalities, needs, and goals while offering advice on establishing manageable timelines. Additionally, we provide pertinent information regarding standardized tests, test preparation, and summer programs. We actively encourage college representatives to visit our students and our school.
We are proud of the fact that students from Seisen International School graduate fully prepared to succeed in higher education and are maintaining their excellent standards of performance in select colleges throughout the world.

School Nurse
A full-time nurse and a part-time nurse are on duty in the infirmary during school hours. All minor illness, accidents and injuries are treated in the infirmary in addition to administering medication during school hours, controlling communicable diseases, and providing nursing procedures and necessary care for students with special health needs. Health counseling and teaching and health screening such as vision and hearing are also provided, as well as information regarding doctors, dentists, and hospitals in Japan. The goal of the health service is to enhance the educational process by removing health barriers to learning. All health forms (blue and yellow) should be submitted to the infirmary by the first day of the school year.

Counselor
Seisen adopts a holistic approach in meeting the educational and developmental needs of students. The counselor collaborates with faculty, administration, parents and students to provide and develop a comprehensive counseling program for all the students at Seisen. Also, the counselor is a part of the Seisen Support Team, which includes the Learning Support Specialist and School Nurse. On a regular basis, the counselor enters the classroom to teach lessons on social and developmental issues in accordance to the Elementary School and High School curricula. The Adviser - Advisee program that is put into place for students in grades 7-12 has been successful in providing each of the students the opportunity to choose a faculty adviser with whom they can talk to regarding academic and personal concerns.

LSS
The role of the learning support specialist is to support students who are having difficulty with various aspects of the curriculum and to help teachers discover ways to guide these students towards their academic potential. The LSS program is quite flexible and is always aimed at targeting students’ needs and providing students with the tools they need to achieve success independently. When a teacher is concerned about a student, that teacher will meet with the LSS who then develops an action plan in conjunction with the Student Suport Team. The action plan may include 1:1 or small group pullout instruction, inclusion or push-in instruction, or a variety of teaching strategies, accommodations and modifications that the teacher can use to help the student in the classroom. When needed, the LSS administers a testing battery to determine the strengths, weaknesses, and learning preferences of the student in question.
At the high school level, the LSS participates in Academic Concerns meetings and follows up with teachers regarding the implementation and impact of the recommendations. The LSS also meets with high school students who have been identified as having difficulty and provides them with study/learning strategies support.
Other aspects of the LSS role here at Seisen are to develop resources for teachers in grades 3-6, model critical thinking strategies instruction in grades 3-6, meet with parents, collaborate with the Elementary School Curriculum Coordinator about the implementation of thinking strategies into the elementary school curriculum, and to apply for accommodations on college entrance exams if a learning disability has been diagnosed.

High School Academic Program
Seisen requires that students earn 22 credits in grades 9 through 12. Graduation requirements are as follows:Subject / Credits
| English 4 Foreign Language 3 Social Studies 4 Religion 2 |
Math 3 Academic Electives 3 Science 3 Physical Education 1 |
Courses in health and art or drama are required each year. Academic electives include art, physics, business, history, Spanish, French, and Japanese. Other electives are yearbook, newspaper, library assistant, choir, dance, drama, and pottery. Special instruction in English as a Second Language (ESL) is available.
Class size varies according to subject. The grading system uses letter grades (A to F) for electives and physical education and numerical grades (the highest being 100 and grades below 70 indicating failure) for other subjects. Reports are sent to parents at the end of each of the four marking periods. Parents are advised if a student is in danger of failing a subject.
The sectioning of classes is random except in English and mathematics courses, in which groupings are based on ability. The average course load is five classes in academic subjects and one elective. The library is open during the day and for 90 minutes after school.
The following tests are administered in the school: the PSAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test and the SAT.
In 1986, the International Baccalaureate program was initiated. Students are able to earn a full I.B. Diploma or to take individual courses for certificates. In grade 10 each student decides whether she will take the Seisen University Preparatory Program or the International Baccalaureate Program to complete her graduation requirements in the last two years of school. In many cases the students in both programs are in the same classes, but there are variations in the requirements, which are designed to meet the needs of the students and their individual strengths and weaknesses.
Middle School
Seisen’s Junior High School consists of the seventh and eighth grades. The curriculum includes 9 subjects with the addition of art and music.
There are 9 periods per day, homeroom starting at 8:20 a.m. and each period lasting for 42 minutes. Lunch time is from 11:40-12:25 and the last period is allotted for either activities or study hall. Each grade is divided into two classes; a total of four classes in the Junior High.
To promote Catholic beliefs for Catholics and Christians, Mass is offered every other week on Wednesdays during the eighth period.
Students are required to participate in two ungraded activities each semester. Some activities are Bell choir, Tennis, Pottery, and Reading Club. These activities are aimed to give students some break from studying and increase cooperation skills with people in other grades. In addition, there are also helping labs in Math, Writing and Science for students who need further assistance in these areas.
Teachers prepare Junior High students so that they will be capable of participating in the rigorous High School program.

Kindergarten
The Montessori academic system aims to fulfill the child’s developmental needs. Freedom within limits as well as exposure to orderly and attractive materials help to create a very favorable environment for the child.
Through this Montessori academic system, the child builds the foundations of creative learning. The child gradually grows to thirst for knowledge and learning and also develops habits of concentration, order, obedience and confidence.
